Hello Parents/Guardians:

In this age of advanced technology, the Internet has arguably become the best
tool available for study, research, entertainment, communication, and retail
commerce. Truly, the Internet contains a wide array of worthwhile information
and services that grow rapidly, and expand daily.  Again, it is a highly worthwhile
tool for all responsible users.

At the same time, the Internet is being abused by some individuals who use it as
a vehicle to spread smut, pornography and obscene materials, as well as, by
predators who prey upon innocent children, women, the elderly, and other
responsible users.  Please caution your child about these and other hazards when
using the Internet.  Personally, as your young child's teacher,  I hold a moral
obligation to partner with you in a combined effort to protect these young
children.

Therefore, I caution and remind you to supervise your child's surfing on the
Internet. In particular, it is never advisable to "chat" with strangers, either in
person, or over the Internet.  Unfortunately, there are shocking graphic images
contained on the Internet.  Often these are delivered in unsolicited
e-mail,
called spam.  Other times these images can appear during an innocent word or
topic search.

For increased protection, you may wish to invest in software for your computer
that is designed to block, or filter out, the objectionable and unsuitable content
matter.  Also, some Internet Service Providers are able to filter your service
at their site, usually for an additional fee.  Two popular filtering products are
Net Nanny, and Cyber patrol.  Your software vendor can assist you in making a
wise selection of an Internet filtering software if you choose to invest in one.

For more information you may click on the link to the left for a free "Parents'
Guide to the Internet."  This is a good source by the US Department of
Education.

Finally, I have included a "Contract" that you and your child can each sign
pledging to online safety.

Happy Safe Surfing!!

Sincerely,

Miss Binns
