Parents are the most important adults in the life of a child. When
parents are involved in the education of their children they produce
children who succeed not just in school but throughout life.
I have listed a few tips below that will help you and your child
succeed in middle school. Also, to the left are a variety of
websites that I believe will assist you with additional information.
- Set a specific time for your child to study and do homework
- Review homework at a set time every night
- Never do your child's homework
- Check agenda on a daily basis
- Set realistic goals for your child
- Encourage daily attendance
- Never make excuses for your child; instead teach accountability
- Teach your child consequences
- Be accessible to your child
- Display projects, art work and test at home
- Give feed back on your child's work and abilities in order to build
self-esteem and self-confidence
- Monitor out-of school activities
- Talk with your child on a regular basis about what he/she is doing in
school
- Talk with your child's teacher about ways you can work together to
help your child
- Set a time aside each night for family reading, where everyone reads
together
- Have reading materials available such as books, magazine newspaper,
etc. and let your child see you reading
- Inquire when there are important dates during the school year when
you can get involved in school activities
- Join the PTA to make sure that you have a voice in what happens in the
school
